Photo Of The Day – Washington Square Park

As a street shooter, I often prefer to catch life as it happens, subjects unaware. But sometimes, as with this image of the bird man in Washington Square Park I know I want to take more than just a couple of sneaky shots. So I asked permission and once granted, I can relax and work on capturing the best frame. Sometimes the subject is self-conscious and aware of being photographed. But all seemed natural to me with this image.

  • Wonderful shot! What lens did you use? I love my 50mm but you have to move up close and then people are aware you are there…

    • It was with my 35mm 1.4…when people know I’m there I get out of my comfort zone and move in close…people begin to ignore you and you can capture an authentic moment.
